GEO 302 Earth History and Stratigraphy

Prerequisites: One of the following: GEO 101 GEO 140 , or PHSC 104 .
Co-requisites: GEOL 202L.

Study of sediment and sedimentary rock layers to reconstruct Earth's past environmental settings. Includes study of changes in the Earth's crust, global climate, oceans, and life through 4.5 billion years of geological time. Topics include fossils, mass extinctions, geologic time, and the geologic evolution of the Appalachians. Lab emphasizes field study of southern West Virginia geology.
