Study of the identification, classification, geochemistry, and origin of minerals and rock bodies, with emphasis on igneous and metamorphic processes in continental crust. Includes study of societal uses for mineral resources, ore deposits, critical minerals, and environmental and human health issues related to minerals. Lab incorporates X-ray microanalysis, optical mineralogy, and elementary crystallography.
