The Department of Business offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Science (B.S,) in Business Administration , a four-year degree program designed to prepare students for successful careers as business professionals. Students can choose from six areas of emphasis:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Hospitality & Toursim Management
- Management
- Marketing
- Sport Management
In addition to the major, the Department offers minors in:
For students seeking flexibility, the Department of Business provides a fully online option for the B.S. in Business Administration with emphases in Management or Hospitality & Tourism Management. Interested students must apply specifically for admission to the online program.
Mission of the Department of Business
The Mission of the Department of Business at Concord University is to transform our students into competent and responsible business leaders through high quality teaching and personalized advising, while stimulating their academic and service zeal. Business faculty engage in active research and service to ensure that our graduates are ready to take on the challenges of the business world.
Values of the Department of Business
The overarching goal of the Department of Business is the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. We nurture learning and intellectual development for both students and faculty.
The faculty's primary responsibilities to the students are instructing, advising, and mentoring. Faculty are also expected to enhance learning through scholarly activities and professional development. The students' primary responsibilities are the pursuit of a business education and a commitment to the learning process. Service activities of our students and faculty include but are not limited to contributions to the Department of Business, the University, and the regional community.

The Department of Business at Concord University is accredited by ACBSP -- Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (www. acbsp.org), a global business accrediting body. ACBSP is an association of educational institutions dedicated to supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence in business education. Business Symposium Series for Students
The Department of Business offers a series of symposia organized around a variety of current business topics. Attendance at symposia is a means by which the Department can provide students with an enhanced understanding of business through their interactions with presenters.
In order to matriculate with a degree in Business Administration, students must attend at least 2 symposia in both their junior and senior years; thus, attendance at a total of 4 symposia is required for graduation. Information about times and dates can be obtained from the Department Office, the Department student email listserv, the Department website, or in local news.
If a student cannot attend a symposia due to scheduling conflicts, they may access the events from the Business Department's website under the News & Events menu.
Undergraduate Comprehensive Exam in Business Administration
Graduation as a major in Business Administration requires the successful completion of the Undergraduate Comprehensive Exam to be taken during the final semester in conjunction with MGT 465 Strategic Management . This Business Administration Undergraduate Academic Degree Exam consists of multiple-choice questions, prepared and scored by the Peregrine, and covers a broad range of topics in business including Accounting, Economics, Management, Quantitative Business Analysis, Finance, Marketing, Legal Environment, and Global Dimensions of Business. The content covered throughout the degree program is intended to help prepare you for the Undergraduate Comprehensive Exam.
Online Business Program Admission Requirements
General Admission Process
Students must first meet all university admission requirements as outlined for Undergraduate Admissions before applying for admission to the Online Business Program.
Academic Requirements
Traditional Students:
- GPA Requirement: Minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA
- Current Students: 3.00 cumulative GPA from current institution
- Transfer Students: 3.00 cumulative GPA from previous institution(s)
- Course Completion Rate: Must have completed at least 70% of courses attempted (Satisfactory Academic Progress)
- Only applies to current or transfer students with previous college coursework
- Standardized Test Scores: High school students will be admitted with the following options:
- 2.50 GPA with ACT minimum score of 21 or SAT minimum score of 1050 (required for students applying without a college GPA).
or
- 3.00 GPA with no ACT/SAT score
Non-Traditional Students:
- Definition: Students who have been out of school (high school or college) for at least 5 years
- Waived Requirements: GPA, standardized test scores, and course completion rate requirements are waived.
Student Eligibility Restrictions
The undergraduate online business administration program is designed to serve students who, due to geographic, professional, or personal circumstances, are unable to participate in the Residence Life Program at Concord University. In alignment with the University's mission and commitment to a vibrant on-campus learning community, students who fall under the criteria for required residential housing under current University policy are generally expected to enroll in the in-person modality of the program. Enrollment in the online modality is not intended for students participating in university experiences that inherently require campus presence, including but not limited to the Residence Life Program, studentathlete participation, or other campus-based commitments. Exceptions for admissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Technology Requirements
All admitted students must have access to:
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- A reliable computer capable of running required software (mobile devices alone are insufficient for coursework completion)
- Access to Blackboard Learning Management System
- A working camera and microphone connected to their computer
Note: Specific software requirements may vary by course and will be communicated at the beginning of each semester.
Academic Standards and Probation Policy
Ongoing Requirements
- Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA throughout the program
- Students falling below 2.5 cumulative GPA will be placed on departmental academic probation
Probation Process
- Students on departmental academic probation have one semester to raise their cumulative GPA to 2.5 or above
- Failure to meet the cumulative 2.5 GPA requirement after the probationary semester may result in dismissal from the online program. Students will continue the degree program without priority access to online courses.
Ethics Requirements
All students must agree to an ethics clause upon admission. Academic dishonesty, including but not limited to unauthorized use of artificial intelligence tools, is strictly prohibited. Students who receive two violations reported to the Provost will be dismissed from the program.

Students should be aware that various institutional financial aid packages may be affected by off-campus status. Please consult with the Financial Aid Office to understand how your scholarships and aid may be impacted by participation in the online program.
