Sociology

The goal of Sociology is to provide an understanding of the scientific study of social problems and human behavior in social settings. Sociology is concerned with causes and solutions for social problems, and the growth of the individual within the wider context of society. In the study of sociology, the student is encouraged to develop a theoretical framework and techniques of investigation useful for analysis and insight into group behavior.

The student interested in a Bachelor of Science degree may major in sociology with a minor in another discipline. Note the required grade average in Department of Social Work and Sociology.

Sociology majors seeking careers in criminology or criminal justice may select the emphasis in Crinimology.  This curriculum provids a broad liberal arts education that encourages them to think critically about crime and justice issues and prepares them for careers in the criminal justice systems or preparation for a graduate degree program.
