New! Starting in Fall 2026!
The Department of Health Sciences offers a Master of Public Health degree. The program is a 42-credit hour program designed to prepare students for careers in public health to help address the disproportionate rates of chronic disease in West Virginia and other underserved areas. Consistent with the University’s mission, the program focus is on training students to meet the public health needs of rural and underserved populations and to be committed to community service. The program trains students to work in a variety of settings, with an emphasis on rural health and disease prevention.
The program has two pathways for students to enter the MPH program and is available as completely online or through hybrid delivery as a combination of online and classroom based course. The first pathway is designed for students holding a Bachelor’s degree who meet the program’s prerequisite courses and admission requirements. The second pathway is for Concord University undergraduate students who wish to complete a 3+2 program to earn both their undergraduate degree and MPH in five years. There will also be three options for dual degrees for graduate students to earn a PA/MPH, MSW/MPH, or an MBA/MPH degree.
The Master in Public Health curriculum is designed to allow students to meet competencies outlined by the Center for Education in Public Health (CEPH). The CEPH assures quality in public health education and training to achieve excellence in practice, research, and service, through collaboration with organizational and community partners.
The program includes an Applied Practice Experience (APE) and an Integrated Learning Experience (ILE).
Students must maintain a 3.00 GPA to graduate and remain in good academic standing in the program. If a student’s GPA falls below 3.00 they will be placed on academic probation. Two semesters of lower than 3.00 GPA will result in removal from the program.
