CHEM 332 Organic Chemistry II (4) Prerequisites: CHEM 331 . A continuation of CHEM 331 with emphasis on the properties, synthesis, and reactions of benzene, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and their derivatives. Laboratory consists of fundamental experimental techniques in multi-step organic synthesis, purification, and the use and application of structural and optical spectroscopic techniques (IR, NMR, mass spectrometry). Students are expected to be able to identify and follow professionally recommended safety practices in the laboratory.
Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory.
