CHEM 402 Physical Chemistry – Quantum Mechanics (3) Prerequisites: CHEM 102 , CHEM 112 , PHYS 102 or PHYS 202 , MATH 253 or concurrently. A calculus-based study of quantum mechanics applied to atomic structure, chemical bonding, and spectroscopy. Includes the Schrödinger equation, model systems (particle-in-box, harmonic oscillator, rigid rotor), approximation methods (perturbation and variational methods), and magnetic properties of many-electron atoms.
