Biology (BS)

Biology


The degree of Bachelor of Science in Biology requires successful completion of 120 semester hours including (1) the General Education Program ; (2) the Core; (3) the Cognate; (4) the declared Emphasis courses; (5) the Directed Electives courses; and (6) a program of electives or a minor as worked out with the student’s advisor; recommended minors include Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Psychology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics.

A GPA of 2.00 is required.

Biology Core


31-41 credit hours

Biology (12-16 credit hours)

Chemistry (8 credit hours)

Mathematics (3-9 credit hours)

        (MATH 103/MATH 104/MATH 253 or equivalent proficiency may be required for physics)

Physics (8 credit hours)

Students who have qualified for BIOL 121 credit previously are exempt from taking BIOL 130.

Biomedical Sciences Emphasis


31-35 credit hours

NOTE:

The same course cannot be used in multiple categories for credit. BIOL 326 may be used only once to fulfill major/minor credit. One (1) BIOL 101 or BIOL 102 course may be used as a Directed Elective. 

Students who have qualified for BIOL 121 credit previously are exempt from taking BIOL 130.

Organismal and Field Emphasis


31-37 credit hours

NOTE:

Students are recommended to take BIOL 202: Animals as Organisms, BIOL 301: Plants as Organisms, and BIOL 329: Microbiology. The same course cannot be used in multiple categories for credit.  BIOL 326 may be used only once to fulfill major/minor credit.  One (1) BIOL 101 or BIOL 102 course may be used as a Directed Elective.  Students who have qualified for BIOL 121 credit previously are exempt from taking BIOL 130. 

Pre-Physician’s Assistant/Physical Therapy Emphasis


31-35 credit hours

NOTE:

The same course cannot be used in multiple categories for credit.  BIOL 326 may be used only once to fulfill major/minor credit. One (1) BIOL 101 or BIOL 102 course may be used as a Directed Elective. Students who have qualified for BIOL 121 credit previously are exempt from taking BIOL 130.
