The degree of Bachelor of Science in Education in English requires successful completion of at least 120 semester hours, including (1) the General Education Program , including ENGL 203 and ENGL 204 ; (2) the Professional Education component, and (3) the requirements associated with the following certification:
English Grades 5-Adult
This degree qualifies graduates for certification to teach English at both the middle-school and high-school level. To increase job opportunities, an additional teaching content specialization is recommended. See Content Specializations.

Content Specialization Requirements
A 2.50 Grade Point Average Required (A grade of "C" or better required in each of the following courses) Advanced Mini Courses* (6 hours total)

- ENGL 432A Advanced Mini-Courses, British Literature from the Restoration through the Romantics (1)
- ENGL 433A Advanced Mini-Courses, British Literature from Victorian to the Present (1)
- ENGL 434A Advanced Mini-Courses, American Literature from the Beginnings to the Civil War (1)
- ENGL 435A Advanced Mini-Courses, American Literature from the Civil War to the Present (1)
- ENGL 436A Advanced Mini-Courses, Anglophone Literature (1)
- ENGL 437A Advanced Mini-Courses, Literature in English Translation (1)
- ENGL 438A Advanced Mini-Courses, Advanced Special Topics (1)
- ENGL 439A Advanced Mini-Courses, Linguistics; Literary Theory and Criticism; Research Methods (1)
- ENGL 440A Advanced Mini-Courses, Advanced Individual Research Project (1)
Note:
*The following categories must be represented within these six mini-courses: Shakespeare; women writers; and authors of historically marginalized ethnic groups, such as authors of color.
