CHEM 401 Physical Chemistry – Thermodynamics (3) Prerequisites: CHEM 102 , CHEM 112 , PHYS 102 or PHYS 202 , MATH 253 or concurrently. Co-requisites: CHEM 407 .
A calculus-based study of thermodynamics, phase equilibria, electrochemistry, and chemical kinetics. Includes probability, ensembles, partition functions, the applications of classical and statistical thermodynamics selected from diatomic and polyatomic gases, solids, phase and chemical equilibria, electric and magnetic effects, reaction rates, and nonelectrolyte and electrolyte solutions. Must be taken concurrently with CHEM 407 .
Three hours lecture.
