Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)
The Master of Arts in Teaching Program is a 36-39 hour, on line program that provides the professional education courses and clinical experiences, including student teaching, necessary to prepare individuals for teaching in a specific content area in grades PreK-Adult, 5-Adult, or 9-Adult. This program is not designed to offer licensure in elementary or special education. A transcript analysis will be required for admission and in order to identify any additional undergraduate content that may need to be completed in order to meet the requirements for the master's degree and licensure in the secondary content specialization areas offered through Concord University as defined in WV Policy 5100-6.3.2 Standards for Subject-Area Content in Teacher Preparation Programs.
Required Courses (36-39 credit hours)
Note:
*Candidates obtaining a PreK-Adult licensure, such as Music, Art, and Wellness are also required to take EDUC 517 and Integrated Methods in Elementary Education to comply with WV Policy 5100.
Additionally, clinical experiences will be conducted in age/grade/content appropriate classrooms as required by WV Policy 5202 and the West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards (WVPTS).
An approved six (6) hours of transfer credit can be applied to the program of study. All courses must have been taken within the past five (5) years.
