Women's & Gender Studies (Minor)

The goal of Women's and Gender Studies is to examine the ways that gender (and sexuality, and race, and social class, etc.) shape our lives, our social interactions, and our social institutions. In the interdisciplinary study of Women's and Gender Studies, students will become familiar with social constructions of masculinity and femininity while building strong oral and written communication skills. In addition, this minor prepares students to critically analyze social relationships, cultural production, and historical events and processes. A focus on understanding and empowerment can lead to positive personal and social change.

Women's & Gender Studies Minor Requirements:

15 Total Credit Hours

WGST 101 Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies (3)
Select 3 credit hours from the following human sexuality courses:
PSY 203 Human Sexuality (3)
SOC 221 Gender & Sexualities (3)
Select 6 credit hours from the following core courses:
HIST 101 History of Civilization (3)
PSY 205 Child and Adolescent Development (3)
SOC 221 Gender & Sexualities(3) (cannot duplicate if used in requirement above)
SOC 301 Sociology of Families (3)
SOWK 302 Human Diversity (3)
Select 3 credit hours from the following elective courses:
EDUC 210 Diversity, Culture, and Education in a Pluralistic Society (3)
MCOM 304 Intercultural Communication and Diversity (3)
SOWK 237 Human Behavior and the Social Environment Across the Lifespan (3)
